Pneumonia affects one lung, double affects both.

There is no such condition as "double pneumonia"

If there was, the mikes´s explanation would be correct.
Interesting. It was a very common expression when I was young. what do you think people meant by it?
mike...double pneumonia is not a medical term, but a layman´s term.

2main types of pneumonia
a) Lobar Pneumonia........affecting one lobe.
b) Bronchopneumonia.......which may or may not affect both lungs.

Both are entirely different disease processes.

I think that I would agree with your answer.
My old mum 20 years ago died of 'Double Pheumonia' Its on her death certificate as cause of death.

my friend said that she has had double pheumonia in the past.
So they are the same thing then. thanks folks

its strange how we have always believed that single and double pheumonia are the same thing, meaning either one lung or two being infected. thanks for replies. have a good day x pusskins

Jemima -- ummmm.Must have been rotten to see your loved ones suffering from it.
I was young so I don't remember it...luckily. The doctor thought I had pneumonia once but it turned out I had a blocked wind pipe. That was bad enough....

jemisa......vaccination is only effective against the bacterial causes...it is inneffectve against the other causes of pneumonia, particularly viral and Kleibsiela.
double pneumonia is a misunderstanding, I believe - it's pleural pneumonia and people misheard it as plural pneumonia.
jno......no such thing as Pleural pneumonia.
bang goes that theory, then.
