Further to my previous post about my virus - I have just woken up to find my face all swollen on one side and neck painful.

I know it's my glands - but is it a good thing or a bad thing and should I just leave my system to get on with making me better again?

Have to say it sounds like mumps to me. Did you have them as a child?
Yes, keep away from young men. (This old man has had mumps so is safe to practise one).
If gland has not reduced then get an appointment to see GP on Monday, has been going on a while now,.

I've a cold/chest virus all week. I have been wheezing and feeling totally shattered. I haven't been to the doctor as I thought that it would get well on its self. I have never had swollen face like this before.

The only young man within reach was de-balled a long time ago. (My avatar).

I have had mumps - it was horrible.
If its not Mumps my love it sounds as if you've got a blocked duct somewhere, you should get it checked out.
See how it is Monday morn, but to be on the safe side it would be best.
Look after yourself because you'r important.

Thanks folks - I am going back to bed and will see how it is in the morning.
Could be mumps BUT

Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember that you have a pre-existing condition other than your recent viral infection.....is that so?
My son had mumps...it wasn't like the mumps I had a child though. I presume because he'd had his MMRs that he got a milder version. He was still quarantined though..

Mumps - even the thought of it scares me.

Pre-existing - HBP, PCOS, diabetic, high cholesterol and bipolar.

The area below my ear is the bit that is really sore - or more uncomfortable. I don't like using the emergency weekend service for something that is either self limiting or will wait until I see my usual GP.

I was actually telling somebody last monday that after two years of being mentally unwell I was actually feeling better. ;-)
wolf...thanks....there is a chance that the swelling is bacterial, but monitor the situation today using Ibuprofen to relieve the pain. The point is that if it IS bacterial you will need antibiotics although my money is still on it being viral(mumps).

Keep us informed.

Thanks - I don't mind using the NHS but I feel guilty abusing it.

Mumps - I thought that had been eradicated decades ago.

I am off to feed the kitties.

Susan
How are you feeling today, wolfy? You wouldn't be abusing the NHS if you dropped into a walk-in Centre today - that's what it's for. 24 hours could make a difference to any infection.
Boxy

<<<24 hours could make a difference to any infection.<<<

It would..........it would establish the diagnosis before starting treatment.(Masterly inactivity)

We don't have a drop-in centre. I may be kidding myself but the swelling doesn't feel quite so tight.

The wheezing has improved - so I am hopeful that this is just a virus that will go on its own, but if glands still swollen tomorrow will phone the surgery.
