If you ever get an email asking you to log into your account via a link (whether it's paypal, bank, catalogue or any online stores you are registered with) don't do it! Come out of your emails and go to the official website and check your account. If it is genuine and there are any problems then you will see them on the proper website - anything that asks you to follow a link is looking for your log in details.
Yesterday I bought something on the net via paypal I paid the amount £14.99. by credit card today I got an email addressed to me saying they wanted my bank details, I emailed them back to say I did not want to give the details and I did not think it necessary as I had paid by card, I am awaiting a reply. Paypal should really be looking into this.
DeeSa, keep an eye on that one - you shouldn't have responded really, that lets them know they have hit a real email account with their spam email. What you need to do now is to forward that email you received to Paypal's phishing report department, forward it to [email protected], then they can tell you if it's genuine or not.
Paypal will never send you an email like that without is having some personal identifier on it. Do you already have a bank account registered with PayPal? - only they do like to have one as a backup if you are a regular user.
PayPal will look into it but it's hard to know what they can "do about it" - most of the phishing emails are generated from overseas.
