Broken Leg/Damaged Ankle

In July last year i broke my leg & twisted mu ankle playing football. I went to a local (small) hospital where they told me i had either pulled or tore a muscle & if it got any worse to go to A&E. Over the next few days the outside of my ankle swelled up massively & my leg felt like it was burning when i was walking.

Off i went to A&E where it was X-Rayed & confirmed the fibula was broken. 6 weeks on crutches & then 4 months of physiotherapy later my ankle is still very weak & basically i can jog in a straught line on a flat surface, but thats about the most i can do.

What are the chances i am left with permanent damage or should i re-visit the doctor/hospital to see if there is something they have missed?

Yes, i have just noticed a spelling mistake, sorry.
Fractured fibula by itself is no big deal and shouldn't have any persistent problems.
7 months seems to be a long time for such a fracture, but it can happen.

As it is the ankle that is weak, I have to assume that the fibula was fractured lower down and if anything was missed, it is a bit late now to turn things around.

My advice....... persevere with light exercises increasing pressure on your ankle for another 2 months.

You haven't mentioned pain or swelling so I presume that you have none.

It isn't painful to touch, but if i attempt to run or jog on an uneven surface or change direction, it seems to almost give way with some pain.
I broke my left fiblua at the end of last April. 8 weeks with a plastic boot, then off to physio. All has now healed, although my foot still feels a little odd. However, I think you should go back to the hospital where they treated the fracture. Doesn't sound as though it's healed correctly. Perhaps you should have a MRI scan to see if there's still damage, but it's probably just all the ankle ligaments that are taking ages to become elastic again after all those weeks of non-use. Chox.
