Pigmentation is a pretty vague explanation given to you from your optician. This could be any one of a number of things such as pigmentation due to age related macula changes or a choroidal naevus (freckle/mole). About 8% of the population have these freckles and more are bring detected nowadays with advances in technology involved in the eye examinations. These are the most common pigment changes inside the eye. Why not contact them and ask for more information.
Do they actually call them freckles?
I don't personally but some people do.
My Mum and Nan have them. I think from a very young age, so no issues with them. Make the eyes look very unusual.
How do they make your eyes look funny? The pigmentation the OP was asking about was at the back of the eye which you wouldn't see without specialist equipment. Unless you mean iris naevi/freckles?
The referral, if out may be a choroidal naevus, is for a specialist opinion to ensure it is nothing more sinister which is low probability.
