Lazer eye surgery

Anyone had this? I fancy it BUT i fear that its not stood test of time?

I suffer so badly with my eyes in summer that i struggle to wear lenses and cant see properley!!! I have such sensitive eyes unfortunately even today theyre sore!

Any ideas, stories? Most people i know say its best thing theyve ever done xx

If you go see your GP you can ask about a procedure called PRK. It is identical to laser treatment, apart from the eye is actually cut instead of lasered, but the best thing is that you can have it done on the NHS for free

I had a retina tear "welded" by laser, but I guess that's not quite the same thing.

Not sure tinkerbell from what oyu have said that you are a candidate for Lasik......Lasik is for correcting vision, principally short sightedness.. What your consition sounds like is retinal or an iris function issue........

The beauty about Lasik is you know the results instantaneously, though they do butterfly your eyes for 24 hours.....this was done originally to stop dumbo Americans going out of the clinic and driving home, without realising all their focal lengths had been altered. My ex had it done with one of the original pioneers and said it really hit her that night - in being able to roll over and see the digi-alarm clock at 3am without glasses.

She had a small spot of 'focus' problems at about 100m to 120m for a while but that disappeared - that is not unusual. And her advice would be "Get the best Lasik that you can afford" - in other words be a little careful of these 'cowboy' high street operations. Personally I am 20:20 on both eyes and only need glasses because of two many contracts, computer screens and fine print of books....too much reading. I can still easily see a golf ball out there at 300 yards when I stick one out there!

Not everyone can have it, you'r age and how bad you'r eyesight is is taken into account. Get a free consultation, I did and was told I could not have it.

Tinkerbell, you have issues with your contact lenses in the summer presumably due to hayfever or dryness. Have you tried the various options to see if these factors can be managed first before considering surgery. Some refractive surgeries can exacerbate dry eye issues so be careful to get clear and honest advice regarding the best procedure to suit your needs.

No laser refractive surgery is done on the NHS including PRK which is an older type of surgery. Your GP cannot refer you for laser refractive surgery bit there are lots of private clinics which offer free consultations. Good luck.

I've had PRK done on both eyes and the results were brilliant

Mainly i just want to see without glasses or lenses- im almost 24 my vision is same in both eyes -2.25 so for instance if i was watching tv on my couch i couldnt tell u a footie score being 2metres away ... So when i have hayfever i cant wear lenses and therefore cant see...i need new glasses actually but just a personal choice that i dont want to wear em daily. I think i would prob b a candidate tho i admit i dont know diff between laser and lasik! Just seen the advert today nd it got me thinking! Xx

I had one eye lasered 1992 and the other 1993. Although I have not got 20 20 vision, my sight is very much better than before I had it done.My advice to you would be to maybe have 1 eye one done first and then decide if you want to proceede with the other. The teqhniques used today are very much improved from when I had mine done.

I'm similar to you with the hayfever and sensitive eyes. I had thought about laser eye surgery but my uncle who works for sightsavers told me not to. Mainly because it is still fairly new and they don't know what the long term effects are. I think I would still do it though, the thought of not having to wear glasses everyday is too tempting haha :)

I'd rather wera glasses than do anything to my eyes that has that small possible chance I could end up losing my sight

I had the full monty done on my eyes, better for night vision etc. Before I had it done I needed glasses for driving/watching tv, anything involving distance, now my vision is reversed and I can't read a book or paper without glasses. No more snuggled down in bed with a book as my "bins" dig into my head. Given the choice - I wish I never had it done.

Best £1000 I ever spent on myself!! I had laser surgery on both eyes over 7 years ago and now have perfect vision...the only thing that grossed me out was the smell of burning eyeball for 10 seconds as the laser got to work!!
