Taking my kids to school there's a group of parents who always meet up have a natter about the latest gossip when they aren't email or texting each other about anything and everything that happens in our town which is pretty much 24 hours a day everyday and recently they've had a new topic which seems to be looking at new neighbors without kids and spreading rumours, lies, gossip and suspicion about them.
I find the rumours sick and try and make excuses at the school gates that i'm in a rush so that i don't get caught up in this vicious web especially seeing that the husbands have caught wind with this latest rumour and are planning to giving the couple a "Visit" one night,The last time a couple were singled out by the husbands, their houses were sprayed with grafitti, car tires slashed and they were ignored and eventually moved out in fear. what should I do, no crime has been committed yet and no direct threats have been mentioned yet.

If I were you, i'd stay well away from these type of people and do all that I could to make sure my child avoided their offspring like the plague too. If necessary i'd move my child out of that school and into one which is inhabited by more civilised people!

Have a word with your local police. Even though no direct threats have been made they will have been made aware of the possibility of something happening in the future.

I have a few relatives who have elected to not have children, there is no law that says all couples must have kids.

If you are afraid that some kind of violence or harassment is being planned you should speak confidentially to the police as soon as possible.

I can't say exactly where I'm from but lets just say north in the uk.
Boo and Jim, i'd love to move but really haven't got anywhere to go and my daughter is settled in school.
Mosaic there were no direct threats just some nose tapping and winking which usually means violence

But you say this has happened before. So you would be able to describe to the police where the graffiti was, which people moved away, etc., so get a talk with someone who can do something about it, which nobody on Ab can.

i agree with your concerns i have no children and i'm routinely singled out by the mothers on the school run, why just this morning i was pelted with eggs and called rude names

It seems like your neighbours have nothing better to do than stand around gossiping about others with their idle chatter and malicious rumours. It annoys me when people are quick to judge others without giving them the benefit of the doubt. I still remember a story in the papers a few years ago about a woman who moved into a new neighbourhood. Rumours started circulating that she was a paedophile and her windows got smashed and her sprayed with grafitti (not unlike what you described). It turned out she wasn't a paedophile at all, she was a paediatrician! People should get their facts right before jumping to conclusions!

Mosaic the police were called countless times already for the couple that were forced out and no evidence was ever found to implicate anyone and the vandalism was put down to the mans career. (traffic warden)
