Do or have you had any close friends which you knew for years then after a while they seem to change? Are you still friends today? What's your story?

I'm having this problem. It's really complicated.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

i grew up with my best friend from 2yrs old and still look at him as my best friend, but we have drifted apart.we both have familys now and see each other 3/4 times a year, even the phone calls have dried up in between.people change, its if you can adjust with them or not,i guess sometimes people lose the plot and become drunks, druggies etc, then it is understandable that the friendship goes but,i know i could ring him now and he would help me and that is a true friend not just a mate, mates come and go like work collegues.hope it helps
I have a so called "best friend" who i have been friends with since we were 3 years old , now 38! She is so very different to me and i think that if it wasnt for the history, i would never chose to be friends with her now if we had just met! i know that sounds awful but she is miserable, aggressive and does nothing but slag people off! We are like chalk and cheese and she annoys me loads. The thing is, we went through so much together when we were growing up and that gives us a bond that i will never have with anyone else. Stupid really. I do care a lot about her but if we met now, no way would i choose her as my friend.
I have a couple of good friends, one has been a friend for about 35 years, I only see him maybe once a year, but if I phoned him at two o'clock in the morning and said, can you get here quick,he would not ask why,he would get to me, and I would do the same, I have another mate I work with, although not as good a mate as the first one I know if I was ever in trouble he would be there by my side,he won't back down from anything, nor will I, It is sad when friends change,I had agood friend when I was a kid but now he is such a snotty git,he forgets all the things we did as kids,I don't even talk to him anymore, life is to short for that crap.
I had a friend I met when I was 7. We grew up together and had our first children around the same time.
Unfortunately she met a man with money whom she admits she doesnt love. Had her kids babysat most days while they were toddlers by the gran. Went on to be a qualified nurse, wears her uniform to funerals, not just one... every funeral I see her at, had breast implants and wears see through blouses. She's still a good laugh and I would always be there for her if she needed me to be but... She has changed due to circumstances and is now not the type of person that I would choose as a friend.
Oh that sounds rather bitchy but I swear there is no jealousy there whatsoever. I couldn't be happier than I am with my partner and children.
Yep had best friend through school and then she moved away, she came to visit still and she used to make me howl with laughter and we always got on, then she started dating my brother, after a while he dumped her, she used me to get back at him, I told her where to stick her friendship, selfish B1tch!!
I've been friends with 2 people since the age of 3 and 1 person since the age of 11(now 23) and I will always be friends with them. We don't always speak all the time, kinda go through stages of seeing and speaking to eachother loads then not really at all, but I know that if anything ever happened to me (my aunt died recently and my dad near died), they are there quick as a flash! They are true friends and I love them with all my heart! Would never let them go!
