Are roses still the way to go when sending flowers for valentines? Or are there other options I should be thinking of? I've only just started seeing someone new. Thanks.

I like white lillies personally, or tulips are sweet
Roses are a bit of a cliche, but you might get away with it as long as you don't send red ones. Why not try doing a bit of research into the meaning of flowers - you may find that another, more interesting flower might say what you want to!
Oh, and another bit of advice, if you must do the flower thing, loads of one sort and in one colour always looks more generous and stylish than a mixed bunch or arrangement - even if it's onlt ten bunches of daffs! Trust me on this - me and my sis do loads of flowers, and we know!
if my hubby bought me flowers on valentines day and thats a big if,id prefer red carnations with some white gypsy, they last longer than roses do
I remember one day I was sent a bouquet of red carnations with a single red rose in the middle... loved it!
I think most people would just be happy to recieve the flowers, I don't think it matters what they are. It's the thought that counts and all that.
Personally i think red roses are the best and a big bouquet of those combined with some gyp would go down a treat for me but saying that, i think a bouquet of any sort would be much appreciated.
Im gonna leave this question for my husband to see and keep my fingers crossed ;-)
What's your address Julie? ;o)
Dont buy white Lillys, they are a sign of death!! although very pretty!
my missus loves white lily's, but your right about them being a sign of death
As a former florist, I wouldn't give red carnations ~ they were pretty much exclusive for funerals in my day..

Lillies are lovely (Stargazers) red roses too cliche. Personally, I like roses but a mixed colour bunch ~ yellow or white are my favourite.

Lisianthus are also beautiful..cheaper than roses and much more likely to have a scent.

They are also available in other colours! but yes, I would say that sending flowers is great ~ and perfect for most occasions :o)
times have changed, last year some places had roses and red carnations for valentines day,i dont think it matters what you give its the thought that counts,if your short of money then carnations are a cheaper option.i love them anyway
Hey, I have nothing against carnations..they aren't my favourite (although they are my 'birth flower') but personally, I saw too many of them in funeral arrangements to want them on Valentines Day!

The red rose is extortionately priced for this occasion ~ not worth the expense really..again just my opinion.

And although long lasting, carnations haven't had a scent in years :o(

Lilies are often used as funeral flowers, as they signify 'new beginning'...which is why they are also used at weddings :o)

I remember using longiflorum lilies for both wedding & funeral arrangements

There are so many types of lily ~ at the moment I have pink stargazers in a vase on my dining room table..
Aren't red and white together bad luck? Chuck cream or another colour in to mix it up a bit.
Personally I love roses - pale yellow or cream are my favourites. But I guess it depends on who you are sending them to. If you are seeing someone new - Roses my not be the best way to go (not just yet anyway!).
Get a really nice bouquet with a good mix of flowers and greenery, if it has roses in all the better. Your money might go further too.
I'd be really chuffed with a wee posy of violets.
You don't have to buy flowers, how about buying her a something original like a goldfish....... it would prob live longer than the flowers and not cost as much lol
just to let you know, red roses mean passion & white ones mean purity. It is tradition to send red roses for valentines but why not WOW her even more with a bunch of red roses but 1 white one in middle???? Just an idea - flowers will always impress.
