why is he acting this way?

There is this guy from work who had been flirting with me since before Xmas. I used to always catch him staring at me and he would smile whenever I entered the room. He also used to rub my shoulder and my boss even thought he liked me. This is because he would ask her who was working and if she said me his face would light up, but if it was the other girl he looked disapointed. I never flirted back I was always just polite and proffesional because we worked together. Well I guess he sort of grew on me because I started to like him back. So one day I flirted with him. This was his reaction: his face lit up like a Xmas tree, then he got this love sick look in his eyes. Then he looked embarrassed. He couldnt look me in the eye for the next couple of shifts and he even stuttered around me once. For a while he barely talked to me and was avoiding me. Well now he's starting to be more friendly to me. He still hasnt asked me out though. Do you think he's just shy and is waiting for me to make the first move?

Awww he sounds sweet! He has probably dreamt about getting a reaction from you but because it didn't happen for so long he maybe got brave with his flirting and when you responded he wasn't prepared and suddenly didn't know what to do!
I think you will need to be the forward one and ask him out, just a casual "Do you fancy going for a drink after work?", It's the only way to see where you stand with him :o)

I bet his colleagues have been taking the p1ss which is why he got embarrassed. I personally wouldn't start anythign in my day job office but maybe would at the office I work at at weekends. depends how closely you have to work together I suppose which is probably a reason he's full of self doubt. I'd just play it by ear and hope something happens at the christmas party.
