I have just split with my partner we have a daughter together so i need to move does any one if i go to the council for help tryin to find somewhere to stay??

Sorry to hear that you and your partner have just split.
Best thing you can do is make an appointment with your Local Council and get your name on the housing list.
Also register with the Homeless Unit in your area and they will help to re-house you a bit quicker.
The Homeless Unit also deal with all the housing associations.

If there has been any abuse in the relationship, whether verbal or physical that would move you up the list also, you may be able to get sheltered accommodation in the meantime in a refuge

if you have any family or savings, you could privately rent, and then claim housing benefit, i was in your position before and was worried about bringing my kids up in a bed+breakfast(temporary accommodation) but it all worked out ok in the end. Good Luck.
