Put the number back on your phone but save it under DO NOT TEXT/CALL THIS NUMPTEY' You'd be suprised as to how much this works.

If you do see him again to ask his answers will never be good enough Petal and I think you should consider that before you put yourself in this situation.

To be honest, we will never meet face to face, as he would always avoid a face to face confrontation

The laughable thing is, he said in his text, that he hopes we will always be the best of friends

Well in that case all you can do is carry on with life as it is. He broke your heart, not you. Hearts can be mended... all be it you have to wait for the glue to set and you're left with some little cracks sometimes but ultimately, you'll be ok.

And far better he did this four years in to a relationship and not 40.

We all do stupid things, don't beat yourself up about it and next time you get an urge like that put your phone in the fridge and log on here or just write it down in a letter. Gets it out and less lasting damage.

Men suffer too Pet but I think they hold it in and try to act like they don't care. My cousin was dumped by his ex gf after 6 years. He was devastated and he nearly did himself in on a motorway. I could kill her for doing that to him.

Do not beat yourself up over it. Perhaps you feel embarassed, but look forwards, not backwards. It is not a big deal, in the same way as he is not a big deal - he sounds like a spineless predator, so why do you care what he thinks ? Not worth the trouble, pet.

If I were you Petal, I would wipe him out of my mind and start afresh. He doesn't sound like a very nice person, dumping you via e mail. He probably feels all smug now, telling his friends that you want to get back with him, this is how men like him behave.

If he suggests you meet up at some other point, I think you shouldn't go. The fact he dumped you by e mail tells you everything, he's a cowardly, cold ******** who really didn't give a damn about your feelings. You don't need to meet him face to face for him to explain that to you.

Good luck with moving on, also be careful with online dating too. There are a load of lying, deceitful ***** there too.

I just took my ex's number out of my phone and tore it up where I had it on paper so at a moment of weakness I wouldn't and couldn't text or phone him
I wanted too believe me but am over it now
I tried internet dating and have just met a lovely lovely man but am taking it very slow
before him I met a idiot who basically just wanted sex and I fell for it but if you are careful it can work
