Staying with Boyfriend whose in prison?
12 Answers
I've been charged with GBH and have pleaded guilty so I know I'm probably going to prison for a while.
I've been with my girlfriend for 18 months now. I'm 26 and she's 23 and is 6 months pregnant. She has stuck by me over the last few months with all this going on but I don't know if it will last when I'm not around. I'm on bail now and get sentenced next month.
Since I've been with her this is the only trouble I've been in and I've told her I won't let anything like this happen again and that I want us to be together after I get out and bring up our kid.
Am I expecting to much?

Is it your first offense Paul? Am just thinking back to when I met my first husband and he was on bail for something similar but only got a fine and suspended sentence as our 2nd baby was due at the time.
All this good stuff will go in your favor and the fact she is standing by you says it all.
Good luck x

I posted another question in the law section about the sentencing but yeah the GBH was bad enough - I used a bottle and the other guy has a scar and broke a couple of bones in the fight. they were talking about Section 18 for a while but it didn't come to that.
It isn't my first offence I got community service for affray a couple of years back and also got done for criminal damage but I hadn't been in any trouble since then.
Lil - Do you really think having the baby due could make a difference? Can't imagine not being around for the birth.
Brief tol dme I could be looking at up to 2-4 years as they charged me with it being racially aggravted too.

I don't know whether you'll get a custodial sentence or not Paul, but I do know that your child needs a responsible and mature father. If you're lucky enough to escape prison, or to get a very lenient sentence, then it's up to you to stop fighting, and to give up anything which makes you lose your temper - e.g. alcohol. At 26, you should be starting to seriously think about your future, and about the sort of example you want to set. This might be your last chance to sort your life out, so let's hope you've learnt your lesson and that all goes well.
I know someone who was in a similar situation and was fighting to get custody of his newborn baby. He got letters from probation and other services he was using to turn his life around and escaped prison by the skin of his teeth....... You have to really prove that you have changed - with a record for affray already they will not treat you too lightly if you have no proof of change - having an expectant partner alone will not make all the difference i'm afraid!!!!
I hope that you manage to change your life and be a great dad - this person did and he was a similar age to you. He now has custody of his son but it took an awful lot of hard work from him. Good luck.
