I've been seeing a man for about 7 weeks. my name is Sara (rhymes with Lara) but three times (so far) he has called me Sarah. I'm seriously p***ed off, especially as he knows it is something I hate.

forgiveable (again) or not?

thanks Alex, that should do it ;o)
Oh no.... Chuck... you mean that your surname does not have an *L*... in it... oops !

Only joking !
just asking out of curiosity. but to me they both sound the same, i don't see the difference. people who speak a different language and pronounce the letters of the alphabet differently most likely will pronounce your name different. how would you react to such a person not pronouncing your name the way you want it to be pronounced? would you jack them up and embarrass them there and then?
Just checked, Chuck..Why would people think there's an L in there??
Max, I have no idea!! but the amount of times I get called it with the non-existent L in it is shocking!!

And now, just in case, I'm going to check on how to pronounce yours with other French speakers I know so I don't get it wrong :)

well bag.lady, I guess on that basis we can call you big.lady, pig.lady or fag.lady... etc etc...

suddenly it all sound the same to me!
you must be a child because you are behaving like one !
Question Author
and you must be ignorant, because you are ignorant.
bag.lady

Sara is not being a child, why should anyone not expect somebody that is close to them to get their name correct?

thank you Joe, you owned the stage tonight!
chuck my my 20.52 post was a serious one. my response about being childish was in response to her 20.57 post. i will not post on this topic because seems my response is misunderstood and taken out of contex.

i'm disappointed in you Chucky, you usually appear to be brilliant and have always given me excellent advice in the technology department.

well I don't know what your name is, bag.lady, but you'd get mighty p***ed off if people used another name on you, I don't care how similar it is.

is it okay to call Mike "Mark"? it's similar but it's not right, is it?

you can't attack someone for wanting people to get their name right. if you've read from the beginning, this is a potential partner. it matters.
Hey Sara3,

Im the complete opposite.

My name is Sarah but spelt Sara

and I hate it when its pronounced Sara!!!!

LOL

this is gunna sound stupid but are u sure hes saying sarah?
like does he have a different accent.. he cud be meaning sara.. but it doesnt sound like it?
if that were me id just start calling him some random name.. that wud get the pint across!! :)
They don't sound the same. Sara rhymes with tiara and Sarah rhymes with carer. The two names sound as different as Mick and Mike. I know a Mick who hates to be called Mike, cos, it's just not his name, simple as that!
Ok, I've gotta stop using UK examples...lol

But, do you know...Up until I was about 20 (basically when I moved to the UK..Ahem!), everyone reading my name would pronounce it wrong. Still happens now when I go to visit my mum in France!! lol See, "Morgan" in French, is pronounced completely differently whether you are a girl or a boy. Unfortunately, I had "original" parents, who insisted on using the boy's version of it.....As it's meant to be in Gaelic!
Basically, I spent 20 years correcting people (including the very funny "so they thought you were a boy" comments....
I think my living in the UK can be partially due to my name, actually! lol
