it is quite obvious to me that people still have insecurities as they even in their 20s....i have had a lot of friends many of who used to maybe take theirs out on me as i was a bit quieter. fact is i enjoy my own company rather than join any b1tching as i see it as childish and not necessary.....it just seems these days to be seen as strong you need to be in gangs.....i was in one wen i was 15 but quickly realised they don truly care, they just want to look popular so maybe now with not many local friends im seen as boring or unpopular...i do have friends but they are into diffrent things. itd be nice to have someone local to go for pint or go on the pull but everyones too buswith there own lives. whats the way forward? be louder? how can i make new friends????

Lots of people have held onto friends from school or university, but in the adult world, unless you are fortunate to meet people through work, then it's damn near impossible to meet people who will become real friends.
I am still in loose contact with a couple of people from school and university and some I've met through work and more recently a few I've met through the gym I work at, but I can only take them in small doses. People seem to be very self-centred these days and they tend only to make contact, when they want to talk about themselves.
Maybe taking up a hobby like an evening class or even a dance class. I've come across a few people who have met new people from Ceroc or Salsa classes, they always need male partners for female dancers.

Velvetee - you're spot on right. It's so difficult making friends nowadays. I didn't get on very well at school, so I didn't stay in touch with anyone. I've got a small group of close friends that i met through work and uni but alot of them have moved away recently so I don't see much of them.
Maybe it's just this country, but everyone seems so isolated. It's like people are in their own little bubbles and, as you say, they seem so selfish. I lost other friends because I didn't want to go out clubbing and drinking every weekend. Im 29 now and I prefer to go for dinner or to see a film or some stand-up comedy or something, but I guess that's not for everyone!
Today, my mum had a call from a 'friend' who hasn't spoken to her for 4 years (despite efforts made by my mum to keep in touch with her). She had just rung my mum to pick her brains about something to do with her job. What a cheek! My mum was really upset and virtually put the phone down on her. It amazes me how shallow people are.
