creepy or romantic?

hello folks,
i have known this girl for a couple of years now. there was definitely something starting between us before she left town but now she lives a few hours away and we see eachother every few months or so. we have both seen other people since, but she is always in the back of my mind, but when i see her i think incessantly about her. i have just come back from a trip with her and a few friends but completely chickened out of telling her how i felt.
i have had relationships with women, but they seem to happen out of the blue or by their terms. any time i feel something for someone i keep my mouth shut and become the tormented "really nice guy" which every fella hates being labelled with.
my instinct is to go to her town and tell her how i feel. i'm not expecting a happy ending out of this. the worst that can happen is that she turns me down and i won't see her again, which would be a bummer but at least it would put my mind at ease.
my question is does this make sense or do i come across as a complete and utter weirdo who women should should avoid like the plague?

any help would be great, and sorry for turning this post into a novel.

mshearer has she given you any signals. You sound like a really wonderful young man and perfectly normal. Yes I would take her to town have a drink and tell her. Better to have loved and lost other than never loved at all. Good luck and fortune.

i haven't had clear signals for a long time now, back when she lived closer there were definate signs. but recently the best i can detect is jealousy on a couple of occasions.
on our trip our group got annoyed with eachother at some point due to our close proximity, but we enjoyed eachothers company (well i did anyway). she is notoriously difficult to read as i have asked advice from one of her close friends and she said she hadn't a clue either way.
if i could i would take her out for a drink no problem, i wouldn't be shy about that. my worry is that going to her town to see her may be a bit full on. i see this as my only real option though as i can chicken out of a phone call or a message, but when i'm on that bus there's no turning back.
'Absence makes the heart grow fonder'! You can be sure her close friend has told her of your fondness. If she sounds pleased to hear from you and is willing to meet up then she is keen on you.

Keep communications open by texting of her welfare etc. Invite her to visit you but keep it 'cool' till she makes the first move............bet, she can't resist you?
Travelling over to where she now lives and telling her how you feel sounds a bit too dramatic and maybe a bit too full on for her.

Best to be a bit more casual, make out you're in her area for another reason, say you enjoyed seeing her again on the recent trip and ask if she's free to meet up for a drink or bite to eat.

If you do get to meet up with her, with it being just the two of you, you should get an idea as to whether she might be interested in you and taking things further.

thanks for the advice folks, very helpful indeed. after posting this i knew it was a bit forward. i don't want to terrify the poor girl, lol
it's definitely one of those cases I think where you just have two tell her how you feel. As the old saying goes if you don't ask you'll never know. Its a rubbish saying I no but its a true one. Good luck with it m8!.
