Would an old fashioned name put you off dating someone?

Does a name instantly put you off dating someone ?... I'm particularly interested in the views of people in their teens, 20's and 30's... would you date anyone called Dennis, Patrick, Barry or Arthur.. or females called Freda, Wendy, Ivy, Doris, Ethel, Jean... Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the names themselves, but because some names seem to age people, where a name doesn't 'fit' the age group, is that a worry ?

Can you imagine telling a mate ' oh yeh, I'm seeing my new girlfriend Margaret tonight' or 'I'm off out with my new bloke Derek later'.

I would say that very lonely people worry about what others might think of their date's name.

Rather any of those than a Marlene, Charlene, Kylie, Kirk or Ross.
A person's name should make no difference and anyone who thinks so must be very shallow. My nephew and his wife have just had a baby and named him Stanley.
I'm 27 and think it's personality that matters not their name. One of my mates who is 29 is in a long term relationship with a guy named Barry. I somehow don't think it bothers her!

Bored at the minute yes, lonely no.

Facebook is what made me think about this...
There actually seems to be a resurgence in old-fashioned names... didn't Tracey Ullman name her daughter Mabel?

Poor child...

See, Jan1957, Stan or Stanley will probably be trendy... I can see Elizabeth coming back soon..

.. Marlene, Charlene, Kylie, Kirk or Ross... See I think those are late 80's early 90's... the trendy names at the minute seem to be Josh, Jay, Ryan, Callum, Leighton.. or Chloe, Jodie, Emily, Jessica
I hope not....I named my daughter Nancy, which I think is old fashioned.
Patrick is not an old fashioned name...!!

My sons middle name is Edwin. I have a cousin called Stanley...

Anyway...the name doesn't mean anything...
It's about time Bob made a comeback, they all call themselves Robbie these days. Bob WIlliams, Bob Fowler, Bob the Robot...
So who,s names do you want to date?
I've dated men with some stupid names.. even met a Vlad once!

right now, if he was Mr Right I wouldn't care if he was called Mickey Mouse.
sara, he's out there somewere, Get out there and find him :-)
I think he's hiding, Tony :o/
a name given by their parents does not reflect on the person

albaqwerty I agree.. I actually think it would be logical if we were all given a temporary name, until we're 16, at which point we can adopt it or change it without legal process being necessary... I actually change my name at 18 from Justin to Michael...
In my opinion Michael is no better than Justin...
Ha ha, me and my friends have talked about this and my definate no no, is a Collin....(sorry to all Collins !)

And on the same sort of note..I was in the post office the other day and this woman shouted for her child Trevor to stop running around.......Trevor!! He was about 4 years old, poor kid.
Someone's name means nothing!! Its personality & compatibility that are important.

I am a Giles, my daughter is Elizabeth May Anne - these are names that have run through our family for generations.
