It is the sea-change in social behaviour in the space of a generation that has seen such a massive alteration in young people's attitudes to interacting with each other.
When I was in my teens and early twenties, on a weekend, people would heads to the pub with friends, have a few drinsk, then adjourn to the local night-club and hopefully dance with a nice member of the opposite gender, and maybe arrange to meet up for a date. Friday was traditionally 'girls / lads' night, and Saturday was for those with partners to go out with them.
Now of course, such clubs are no more - people don;t dance and socialise, they tend to drink and fall over - a generalisation, but largely true, as the state of our town centres proves most weekends.
I think it's sad - a little conversation and learning the art of dating seems to be a thing of the past now - glad I'm too old for the scene these days!
