Onwards and Downwards Continues in February 2014
Hello all,
Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.
Welcome to the month of love everyone, February is here. So how do you combat all the chocolates and cakes due around the 14th? Could you gently suggest to your sweetheart a low sugar, non fat alternative?
Are there any and what do they taste like? I like the look of these:

And these heart shaped tomatoes with a healthy dip:

Please do give us your ideas about a healthy Valentine's Treat.
Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

I'm a septuagenarian and set myself a target on 1st January to lose 28lbs by April 15th. I followed 'Dry January' which I have kept to up to the present + increased my exercise regime and started Tia Chi. I'm happy to report that i've lost 13lbs so far, feel much healthier and supple and (surprisingly) don't miss the 'booze'
Well done you losers. There must have been something about this morning that our scales were allergic to because I missed the weigh in too! I had to get up extra early for a delivery and it threw my morning routine, i only remembered it was Wednesday half an hour ago!
I'll try again tomorrow and am hopeful because these jeans are getting a little loose. Or maybe they're just getting old!

MM that is too much weight to lose in one week and from what you said on the Good morning posts you have a bad cold and on Beechams . You will make yourself ill especially with all the work you do coping with looking after your parents . You will put what you have lost back on quite quickly. Please be careful that is not a good way to lose weight .There is no quick fix it must be done by eating sensible..
wendilla ^^^^ Apologies for not answering earlier. The only real alteration to my food pattern is that i've cut out unrefined/processed carbohydrates, cut out alcohol and use "Fry Light Olive Oil Spray " for cooking. Have not reduced my fat intake and don't 'calorie count' as I find that to complicated and boring. I don't find that i'm hungry with this regime, if i do get peckish then i load up with fruit. I've haven't taken sugar for the past 20 years or so, don't drink coffee and only drink green tea and water.
I sometimes think I should do things like that, but I know once I reached goal weight I'd only reintroduce everything and start to rise again. Still maybe I should find something more to do. Over the last week I've gone up when I've just had a 'good' day, and stayed level or even dropped slightly after the 'bad' ones. It's a strange world.
Weight Watchers on Line is really making me far more aware of what's actually in the food I was eating - too much sugar, too many carbs. A small portion of pasta or bread, and one or two biscuits (within the WW range, which are actually quite nice, if little!) are all I can allow myself each day. However, there is scope for a little naughtiness each week, which makes it not boring - I had a cream scone yesterday, but it was definitely a one-off!
Gosh MM a loss of 12 lbs in one week is a lot. The recommended loss by ? (read it somewhere) is two to four pounds. It has something to do with the body getting used to the loss. Even if it is only for two weeks I would start on normal healthy eating now. You have shown that you have the will power to keep on the right track so try now to loose less per week, but keep it at a steady loss. I think if you choose to do this you will find it easier to keep your goal weight.
