Question Author
I suppose it can. I'm reminded of kidneys in butchers shops encased in fat.
It's within the skin, if that helps? :)

The people I know with sub 7% body fat show me how fat I am around my muscles - which might be what you mean by inside?

I think that the majority is on the "outside" as you suggest, because the inside fills up quicker.
No...a good deal of it is internal. Around the organs as ummmm says. That makes it more dangerous. But,its also possible to look slim, yet still have too much internal fat deposits.
And belly fat is the worse fat to carry.
Its called visceral fat....

And linked to all sorts of nasty conditions.
Males and females differ in the way they store fat, as do different races and ages. Females of normal weight tend to have more evenly distributed fat immediately inside the skin than do males but where on/in the body other deposits are concentrated differs significantly between the sexes (just have a close look at the differences in shape and it will become pretty obvious). There are significant amounts of fat within the abdominal cavity of even barely overweight people and this is regarded as normal and even essential. When internal deposits increase as the person moves into overweight status and beyond, organs can become stressed, even dangerously so. Once obese, both sexes converge as to where additional fat is placed and the more overweight they are the more similar the pattern/locations of additional fat deposits become. For a more detailed/precise description there is no doubt a wealth of sources on the internet and then you can ask genuinely knowledgeable specialists and/or scientists.
The short answer is No. There's a fair bit of it inside too.
The skin does not contain fat but is the largest organ in the body and hides the greatest amount of fat.

The abdominal organs are bathed in fat, but not as much as beneath the skin.

WE all know how easily the fat gets under the skin and between the organs. If only getting rid of it was as pleasant.
Well it's difficult to accumulate over the skin. I find it all seems to go to the midriff area. I think it chooses there because it's such fun when one can not keep one's waistband up.
