Onwards and Downwards Continues in February 2015

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner how about some healthy alternatives to chocolates. Here is one idea from xstitcher:

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/dietetic-banana-nut-muffins/

She says "These are really good and not naughty. I threw in a handful of dried cranberries when I made them yesterday. You could put on a dollop of Greek yogurt drizzled with a bit of honey and stick an edible red heart on the top. These are not naughty and well worth the investment of the Stevia sweetner."

I also did a bit of googling and came up with these:

http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipe/no-bake-thumbprint-cookies

both of which are completely sugar free :-)

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Hi Again Maydup. Now just to verify that what I say works I can tell you that since getting Diabetes type 2 and having a blood sugar count of 115 I have lost 15 kilos, gone down 4 to 5 top sizes (depending on the style) and my blood sugar is 44 with just 2 pills a day......normal is 31 to 44. I'm saying this so you can see that what I am doing is working....forget the blood...

My low carb diet informs me: "You can have these in moderation if you want:

Dark Chocolate: Choose organic brands with 70% cocoa or higher..."
With the big slowdown in my quest to lose 20 kilos before spring, I think I'll give it a miss this year, though!
Cheers Ed
Thanks again abauntie and for the recipes .

Thanks Auntie and good morning all,
I haven't shed an ounce this week..poor me. I hope that the rest of you do better than I did and I'll be looking forward to hearing from you..onwards and downwards!!!
I'm down 300 grams to 77.8 and just off to the doc's for blood test results and I'm hoping my cholesterol is down...at least!
Well done Jomlett. I hope you get the results that you want. I'll bet your doctor praises you to the sky.
Well done Jomlett. I wasn't going to weigh today as I forgot and dressed and had breakfast and 3 cuppas but fully clothed I am just a fraction under so I will weigh first thing tomorrow . Looks like I may have a result at last .
Blood sugars OK, but my cholesterol's up slightly on 2013, which was taken before I started my epic low carb diet! Go figure!
Better news re height...I am shrinking, but not as much as I feared...consequently that improves my chances of beating 25 on the BMI next month!
Allegedly down 1.6 lbs.
I've just come back from Portugal and have put three pounds on. I must get back in the zone as I need to lose at least two stones before June. My fitness pal is getting a bashing again - and no, that's not a metaphor lol
No need to ask if you had a good time in Portugal but you do know how to get back to getting that off again .
Well done OG looks like the scales are working . Now don't go weighing your self every day . Try waiting till the weekend .
It's almost impossible to enjoy a holiday without putting on weight
Lynda so don't beat yourself up about it. Now a good aid for you is to do a week or half a week's menus and make up your shopping list from that. If you keep this up you will find that you can make up your menus very easily. I write mine in a book with the name of the cook book and page for easy reference if necessary. I hope this helps get you back in the zone!
Well done you OG. That is the best result you've had in ages....good lad!
What was your colesterol Jomlett?
xstitcher, Today the cholesterol was 5.1 up from 4.7 taken 2 years ago.
I am really watching my weight, but everyone says 'You will need to exercise'and that's where my problems start, the only thing I can think of doing is going to the baths,i can only swim a little bit but I walk up and down in the water for3/4 hour.any other exercise you can think of apart from chair stuff ?
Thanks for the encouragement.

Don't think I can resist watching progress as the week goes on, but it is up and down. Today's reading was higher than yesterday's too, but that maybe because I was working a normal day and then a night shift (of sorts, support role) too, during which I ate and drank when normally I'd be asleep. Since this is going to be a "shorter day" maybe it'll be further good news tomorrow.

(PS Also all my usual fortnightly tavern drinking buddies called off this last Saturday, one with a cold, the other didn't say but probably saw the weather and thought twice, so that was an additional help. More along the lines of less Saturday excess than a 'within goal' day.)
Swimming is the best exercise you can do, Kate...try to extend your time in the water, just a little more, each time you enter the water.
I am unconvinced one needs exercise to lose weight Kate. I'm sure it helps a little, and is good for your health anyway; but I'd not lose any sleep over only getting minimal exercise as far as weight loss is concerned.

I'd agree though that swimming is a good option. The buoyancy helps you and gives a gentle workout taken at your own pace.
I'm not beating myself up about it - I go on holiday very regularly. However, I don't usually put any weight on for some reason. I made the mistake of not getting straight back on it after Christmas because I knew we were going away mid January. My next venture is back to Portugal at Easter, then corfu in June. I've already lost about 3 st - could be more, could be less, I treated myself to some accurate scales so have no idea really of what I started at
Swimming or anything done in the water is so good for you Kate. Try do exercises while in the water. I'm sure that you can Google loads of them. Since I began my walking I've had a slow but steady weight loss, plus soooo much more energy. I know my diet also has a lot to do with it but I'm definetly an advocate of walking if you can do it. I'd be in the pool if I lived near one...lucky you Kate!
