I have used Quicken for several years but they stopped running any support or updates years back and I am wondering if anyone has discovered a replacement package?
Sage is, of course, the 'industry standard' software but it's not cheap!
Sage Instant Accounts 2011 costs £125.46
Sage Instant Accounts Plus 2011 costs £159.64
The 'full' program, Sage 50 Accounts 2011, costs £499.99
(Those are the heavily discounted prices currently offered by Amazon).
Fortunately there's an open source alternative, suitable for personal use or for small businesses, which is totally free:

I am also still using Quicken but I am not sure what will happen when/if I move the PC it runs on away from XP. For the moment it does everything I want and runs almost perfectly. I will have a look at gnucash - thanks for that Chris. Sage is indeed very expensive.
