depends how quickly you want to see a return! and are you financially ok now?
if before the $3000 you were comfortably financially, then put it a high interest bnk account and forget about it for a while.
or
The fact that you mention $$ tells me your from the USA, we have pension plans in UK i.e put money away for future so when you hit 65 and the government pay you a 'pension' i.e some money each week cos you paid taxes, if you invest the $3000 it will make your latter years easier (golf in Palm Springs maybe!)
or
if you want an instant hit and you have a wild streak then buy a plane ticket for las vegas and gamble the money
there are a million things to do with it, but in the whole scheme of things it is not a long term life changing amount i.e you cant buy a house or fancy car, so it comes right down to the fact of:-
are you sensible
or
are you a little bit naughty!
do you like to enjoy things over a period of time or are you a quick fix and enjoy the moment type of person.
If your not financially ok, then do something you have always wanted to do, visit someone you have not been able to visit because of no $$
I recently got a similar windfall and I have simply made my quality of life slightly better than before. I have made myself smile a bit more and they say there is no price that can be put on happyness so maybe dont think how you can make more, but how can you make more happy!
