You will get a cashpoint card but not a debit card. You will not be allowed a cheque book. You will be able to pay in money yourself and have your salary paid into it if applicable.
However you will be wasting your time going to a bank which you owe money to. Both the Natwest and Nationwide do good basic accounts.
