Depends what you want to sell really- ebay is either a paradise or a nightmare depending what you sell and with regards to running a business as red pointed out technically you have to register, but that largely depends on what you sell and how much of it you sell. What do you want to sell?

No idea I'm afraid about brandname trainers but I think you'll struggle to make much on them anyway as there are literally hundreds of traders selling them. Try finding a small but lucrative niche market instead that's not so over catered to.
