I'm stupidity personified but I could hardly believe what I heard in a recent advert - for Barclays, obviously.
They boasted that you could have access to SOME of your savings AT NO COST!!!
And this is supposed to be an enticement? Someone please help me retain my sanity and tell me I'm wrong.
I haven't seen the advert, but I'm guessing that what they mean is, you can put your savings into an account and make withdrawals with no penalties. Some savings accounts entice you with high interest, but impose a penalty (for example 6 months interest) if you make a withdrawal before the end of the term.
Don't know the details- but could it have been a long-term account that you normally need to give lots of notice or pay (by losing the interest) to withdraw? So getting at some of the savings without cost WOULD be an advantage.
That sounds so much like Barclays! I regularly receive mail reminding me that I'm missing on 'money reward' by not using my Barclaycard at Goldsmiths or wherever!
