I believe you can pay for flights on Easyjet with these cards for instance, and not pay the £8 + for the privilege. Are they worthwhile and easy to obtain as I travel a fair bit ?

I had one a few years ago, and I asked the bank to replace it with an ordinary one, as the cards will not work or be accepted at many places eg. petrol stations/restaurants.....

Hi Bob, it would only be for flights for me, do you just go to your own bank ?
They are usually for the most basic accounts as they can only be used electronically. I have one for my second account and 99% of the places that accept Visa accept electron. Ask your bank.

Thank you Mung
As far as I know, yes. I'm sure if the bank usually issue standard Visa cards, they'll be able to provide one....

There was an article on Radio 4 today on this - they only found one place still doing these - think it was Halifax

But you have to pay a fee to put money on it anyway.

It's a scam by the airlines to make it really difficult. There's going to be EU legislation to stop them doing this in 2014 but I think the Governments going to crack down early at the end of 2012

Interesting Jake
I have one that goes with my Co-Op Cashminder account, which is a basic bank account. I have the account as I'm a bad credit risk, but as Mungbeanz says, anyone can get a basic account. There is no minimum balance and the account is a handy place to shove any spare funds that you may want quick access to.

I've used my Electron in European cash machines with no problem, although they can carry extra charges. Again, this is something you need to check with the issuing bank.
If you've not seen the "cheap flights" song before - enjoy!
