Apologies if this is not the right forum,I have been getting phonecalls identified as International ,International or International unavailable (by my caller ID) which usually occur early afternoon, no-one there if I pick up or switch the answerphone on, but can hear faint noises. Just plain irritating and looking at my bill I may be getting charged 27p. for each. How do I stop them??

Do you ever expect to receive international calls?

If not, don't answer.

In my experience they are usually from the Indian subcontinent, and are from people trying it on with the computer repair con.

I don't know if there is any way to block them.

It might perhaps be worth asking your phone provider to explain the 27p charge.
I always ignore these calls. They are usually scammers, I let the answer machine pick them up and then delete them
It's impossible to be charged for an incoming phone call (unless you've willingly entered into such an agreement, such as by using an 0800 number for your business).

Regrettably, there's no effective way to block international time-wasters.

Without saying a word and as soon as possible try hitting the hash key six or seven times quickly, this will mess things up for the caller. Not sure about the billing though, something wrong there take it up ith your supplier.

Thank you all for your ideas, will check with my supplier and try the Hash key trick , may also use the dog whistle!!
Someone on here suggested holding the phone up to the smoke detector, and pressing 'test'.

I'm looking forward to my next scam call, to try it out.
we have a whistle by the phone...!!!!
