Credit Report

Many years ago, I had a loan with Welcome finance. I missed a couple of payments and then satisfied it after being hounded down relentlessly, 24 hours a day.

Anyhoo, I checked my credit report recently after something my bank said to me. I rent my house and I don't have credit cards. I have a couple of catalogues and two mobile phone contracts and had no issue obtaining them. So, I thought with any financial difficulty I had being in the far distant past I'd be brave and look at my credit report. It's hideously low, it appears that Welcome finance have entered a "settled" in July 2007 but they have also created another entry on my file simultaneously and haven't entered a default or anything they have just been recording 6 missed payments for the last nigh on 6 years. The amount they say I owe on there is 2500, the original loan I took out which is settled was only 1500. Apparently they have gone bankcrupt but someone is reporting this on their behalf so what on earth do I to get this removed from my file? Everything looks really healthy on my report, apart from the fact it says I have 12 missed payments in the last year.

Write to the credit report Company with an explanation.
You can also complain direct to the credit referencing agency and ask them to remove the incorrect information. Get a report from all three referencing bureaus (Experian, Equifax and Call Credit) as they might not all hold incorrect data as some companies only report to certain agencies. They have an online complaints and corrections form on each of their sites. give them a reasonable length of time to investigate and be ready to provide them with proof of your side of events and then take it from there. If they don't amend it then you can approach the Ombudsman.
