Enhance my property probably.
Never bought gold but precious metals may be an option.
Or one could take a bull attitude and invest in companies in developing nations.

Who's got £50,000? Didn't think there was that much floating around unused at the moment!
Try Premium Bonds between you and OH.

Vintage Wine. Just remember not to drink it. :)
Pay off any debt (since interest rates for savings are not brilliant, but interest on loans etc is higher), then look at longer-term bonds from the banks and building societies.
If you're a tax payer, Premium Bonds.
If you don't pay tax, £20k in Santander Account paying 3% and the rest in Premium Bonds.
I'd buy a couple of Rolex watches, keep them in their boxex and put them away for a few years. They really appreciate in value and there is a good market for them due to emerging market countries. Limited edition Rolex would be preferable
