Ask the buyer to put the money straight into your sons bank account instead all your sons needs to do is give his sort code, account number & any reference number if it is a building society account. Then there would be no charges.
Be careful. I once took a payment via paypal which I withdrew to my account. Person turned up and took item worth a lot of money. What could possibly go wrong. Turned out it was someone elses money and I refunded person who had Bren hacked.
If someone wants to buy bike what's wrong with cash?
Your son will not be charged but the buyer will. The seller has to specify that your son gets the full amount( for example £525. ) Then the buyer will have to pay the paypal fee on top of the cash price.
As said easier to just tell the buyer your sons bank sort code and account number then the buyer can transfer it instantly from his bank or if he has online banking he can do it from his computer. No fees at all and instant.
Of course the buyer may be wanting to pay via credit card which he can do by using PayPal but his (buyers) fee will be higher.
I smell a rat.
The buyer is obviously going to pick the bike up in person (I would assume), so I, personally, would insist on payment in cash, when the buyer has viewed the bike and is ready to pick it up.
If it was something that the buyer wasn't going to pick up and you were going to post, then Paypal would of course be an obvious choice.
As already said, it could be leading up to some kind of scam.
We are of the opinion that this is a scam. Prospective buyer says :- Am too busy to speak with you on phone. Am sending an agent to pick up the bike. Do not want to see bike. Want to pay via PayPal!!! For Funks Sake Oh dear. He's not getting the bike unless he brings Cash !! Cheers to you all. Chris
