Paperless Bank Statements

I'm thinking of going for the paperless statements option with my bank.

At the moment, I can view my statements on-line and print them off if I need them, but only for a year. Going back further than that, I would have to request them from the bank at a Cost per sheet.

Would going paperless allow me to be able to access older than a year statements, if I needed to?

I am with the Cooperative Bank.

Thanks.

Each month save the downloadable PDF statement to a folder on your computer then you can have access as long as you want - even forever! http://ask.co-operativebank.co.uk/help/internet_banking/save_statements

I think you'd need to ask the bank. I am with Lloyds and I can access all of mine online at no cost.

Thanks, grasscarp. I should have done that before. Cheers.
Well most of them at no cost. Don't think the older ones are available. Not that I've gone paperless, just got Net access to my account.

Trouble with Lloyds is that to download them for your spreadsheets, for analysis, they want you to do a small amount at a time, and that is just too tedious.

If you are relying on your PC hard drive, remember disks don't last forever. Back up to a couple of places if this is important to you.
I just print mine off every month and keep it - it's just like receiving a normal bank statement :)

Yes, Gizmonster. It'll be a case of getting into the habit of doing it.
May I be bold and ask why you would need statements over 12 months old? I check mine on line every 3/4 days, once done and checked, that's them finished with.
HMRC may ask for details. I no longer keep credit card statements more than a year old but i do screen prints of older monthly bank statements before they disappear
Old statements would be useful to see how spending has increased over the years, and thus project how much poorer one is going to be in the future on a pension. Past data is always useful to help anticipate future trends and potential problems before they arrive.

For instances like this, garador. And thank God I had them all.

Just read that Chrissa - nice one for having kept your statements .... you never know what you might need them for.
I'm self employed, so I keep mine in case HMRC ask for details, like FF pointed out.
