I phoned up a local solicitor today to make a will (nothing complicated) and I require him/her to visit my house, which is only 5 minutes from their office, and he told me it would take about 20 minutes to make the Will, and the cost would be £160.00!
I know I could do a DIY one, but want to make sure everything is in order, but I thought the cost is a bit expensive.
Give your Bank a call, most have a Will Writing Service and could be cheaper than that. When I was working it was about £80, you still got help and advice and it was drawn up by the Bank's solicitors.
trt - use your bank to do the will if you must, but whatever you do don't let them talk you into making them an executor. Their charges for the probate work are outrageous.
Here in Worthing we have just had a Free Will Service offered by local solicitors.
It's an annual thing.
Perhaps there is something similar in your area?
If you wait until October it is Free wills month and lots of solicitors offer to write your will for free if you are aged 55 or over. You've just missed Make A Will month which was march, when solicitors will write them for a donation to charity. Look on the website freewillsmonth.org.uk, assuming you are over 55 & can wait until October!
