A woman I know will be sixty six next year. She has paid hardly any national insurance stamps. Worked abroad etc. Will she be entitled to pension credits, or any money whatsoever?
Thank you for the response. I will inform her about the answers.
I made it about £55 a week. Better than nothing, but won’t cover her council tax. She is claiming no benefits whatsoever, and works part time for the community’s benefit.
I stand to be corrected if I am wrong but I think that to claim state pension you need to have paid a minimum of 10 years National Insurance contributions.
That would give you a small pension and if you have limited savings you can then go on to claim Pension Credit. PC boosts your income to a living wage (allegedly). It also opens up the path for further benefits.
Oops, my phone screen blocked at the right side of the screen. I missed out the six of sixty six.
Apologies.
She can get a pension forecast from the government website
My wife had 6 years of National Insurance contributions and so I paid another 4 years of Voluntary contributions so that she had the minimum 10 years required. She now gets about 58 pounds per week, but because we now live abroad, she is not entitled to any other benefits.
If we returned to the UK I believe she would be entitled to Pension Credit but as that is unlikely to happen, I haven't really looked into it!
For pension credit for a couple the total household income must be less than £306.85 a week and savings must be £10000 or less.
Every £500 in savings between you over £10k counts as £1 income a week
