My daughter very stupidly tried to pay a stolen cheque into an account because she was unaware it was stolen and believed the boy involved.
She was 16 at the time and her account was closed. She was not prosecuted or spoken to by police.
She is now nearly 18 and trying to open an account but is unable to because of this stupid event.
Is there a central register and will anybody give her a second chance?
No account means no job.
She has learnt her lesson and worked hard on her A levels for the past 2 years.

Why not phone up the original bank, get her to ask for a personal interview with a member of staff so that she can explain her situation face to face, and see if that works. It might help if she could be given a written character reference by a member of her teaching staff to take with her.
Banks are obliged by the Government to make banking facilities open to all. As above post says, a personal inyerview helps. With benefits and pensions being paid straight into bank accounts she should be able to get basic banking facilities from the High St banks.
Go with her to open an account. You'll find it's more about ID purposes rather than what she done.

When I was 15yrs old I did something much worse, but it didn't affect me opening a bank account, and now Im even with the same bank, im 26 now.
It sounds as if what happened has been logged on her credit reference agency records. (You can check these by requesting the records - look at websites for Experian, Equifax and Call Credit). If so, she ptobably won't get a full account as these involve a credit check.

However, she should be able to get a basic account (one with no cheque book or debit card and no overdraft facility, but wages can be paid in and direct debits/SOs set up). Most banks, and some building societies such as Nationwide, do them.
