1. If you have any joint finances at all (mortgage, current account etc) then his credit record will be linked to yours and your adverse info will affect him. It is quite likely that you would not be able to get joint credit anyway, in view of your bad record.
2. Your credit record will only improve if you pay off all your debts in full, or after 6 years has gone by from the time your last default occurred (CRA entries are deleted after 6 years).
3. If you wish to try and avoid your creditors contacting you (I assume they don't know where you are at present), you should not go on the electoral roll.
4. Think long and hard about the best thing to do. I get the impression you haven't told your boy friend about the debts. It might be best to do so now, rather than risk him finding out later.
