I've only been working for 6 months since graduating and now have around a grand I want to invest in a fund. I've heard good things about PENNX and Jupiter Emerging Markets...is there anywhere I can get some 'plain english' information about funds?

I am not a Financial Advisor so can't offer advice but Emerging Markets can sometimes offer quite a volatile investment ride and I'm wondering whether this market sector is really the best one for a new investor to cut their teeth on. I can recommend the Hargreaves Lansdown website. Their research section provides a lot of details about individual funds and recommends 150 of the best unit trust funds across all market sectors, from Equity Income, Growth, International, American, Asian, etc. If this investment is meant for the long term (and you don't have any expensive student loans to pay off) it would probably be sensible to invest this money under the ISA wrapping so that you don't pay tax on it.
