name on rent book
5 Answers
my son is going to marry next year and move in with wife in a council flat she already lives in .She says she is going to keep the rent book in her name only[trouble in the past].My worry is that if they split up[you never know whwt happens ]in the future, will this leave my son homeless[although he will always have a home with us]or will the council rehome him even though his name was not on the rent book.He earns a very poor wage so would not afford to buy a house. Can anyone shine a light on the subject please--------- and make it one less thing to worry about////////////

AFAIK, once they marry she doesn't have to put his name on the rent book. And how will he be homeless if he can go back to yours? He can apply for his own council place whilst living with you anyway - might take him years to get one tho

Neither you nor your son have anything to worry about as they are to be married, not simply living together. Marriage gives many more rights and responsibilities in the eyes of the law:
Renting - tenancy in one person's name only
You both have legal rights to stay in the home regardless of who the tenant is
