I am a student nurse with a small bursary with one dependant. Would I be allowed to claim income support or some other financial help. I pay rent but not council tax. I have child support and maintenance.

You wouldn't normally be able to claim benefits when a student. Your case may be different because you could make a claim for Income Support as the mother of the child. On the other hand, any claim would take into account your income, including any bursary and child maintenance payments.

You could try to claim Housing Benefit based on your income.

If you're in paid work you'd be better of claiming Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit.
