I'm booking family a holiday. The operator charges 3% on credit card transactions. If it does this for the full price it will cost me an extra 45. If I pay by cheque there is no charge. Is the consumer protection offered by the credit card company worth the extra?

If the operator is bonded (ABTA, etc) then you have consumer protection there., so I'd say the CC route is not worth the extra.
Make sure you use a credit card that has 0% interest so you aren't paying interest on it !
