debt collection agencies

my girlfriend had letters from a debt collection agency chasing �110 that she does not recall owing. All they would tell her is it was from littlewoods from 1999. Littlewoods could not give her any clues what it was for either! Any ideas where she stands?

If the Debt Collection Agency will not give her full details of the debt she is fully within her rights to refuse to pay them Any debts which have not been chased or acknowledged for six years cannot be pursued through the courts. Even if they were able to take court action they would have to produce proof of the debt or the court would throw the case out.

Tell her to take care with this as the same thing happened to me a couple of years ago (different catologue).
I knew for a fact that I didn't owe them any money but I kept on at them until they told me what this debt was for, something I would never order anyway. They couldn't prove a thing and the matter was dropped when I told them to take me to court - good luck.
