Working tax credit ... can you claim for anything else?

My husband has just been granted a working tax credit and today I had to go to the dentist as an emergency. My treatment is going to cost £198. We are wondering if we would be entitled to claim towards it or anything else.?

I suspect that if you tell the dental receptionist about the Working Tax Credits, you may not have to pay at all.

have you read the paperwork that came with the award notice?

I'm not sure but I doubt it. Im on Job Seekers allowance and I had to pay for my dental treatment. My kids are at university and they/I had to apy for their treatment too. There is a form you can fill in to try to claim it back but it's about 20 pages long and most people give up before the end.

If you are being treated as a private patient (and in some areas anything else is difficult) then you won't be able to claim even if eligible.

Thankyou for your replies. We are NHS patients. As yet all my husband has had is a letter to say we are going to get Working Tax Credit and the amount. Nothing else. No cards or forms. So still unsure.

We get working tax credit and the last two years we have had an NHS exemption card because Tax credit says if your joint income is below £14,000 a year you get one of these. If all else fails try ringing the Tax credit people, I've always found them very helpful. They should know the answer to your query
