No. You still get your bins emptied, streets lit and would expect the fire brigade and police to respond to you emergency calls don't you?
No, unless the person is a full-time student (!), a man of the cloth, a soldier in barracks or married quarters, or severely mentally impaired person.
In other words, age is not relevant, certain job types or categories of person are exempt.
My Dad was 82 when he died in the February and the last of the 10 x £95 a month for his council tax had just gone out of his bank as this borough only lets you pay it over 10 payments. He would have been quite annoyed at that, as he couldn't understand how he was still paying 75% of his bill, (he was given a 25% discount as he was on his own). We did try to claim, as he was only on a small pension, but he had money invested and so that was counted apparently.
You were entitled to claim back from the local authority a proportion (in days) of the whole year that had been fully paid for, Dot. Did it myself on a property during 2009, as executor on a relative's estate.
No both my wife and I (86 & 87 respectively) pay full council tax.
The only reduction would be dependent on income (or lack of it) at ANY age,the only other reduction is the single person discount, which again is not age dependent.
Soldiers still pay CT ( a contributio) whilst living in barracks.
'Council Tax Exemption Class O: A dwelling of which the Secretary of State for Defence is the owner, held for the purposes of armed forces accommodation other than accommodation for visiting forces within the meaning of Part I of the Visiting Forces Act 1952.'

Sounds like single living accommodation and married quarters to me. QED
I agree, age is not a factor re council tax - BUT - have you claimed attendance allowance. If not you will need to determine if you are eligible. If you are eligible you only get it from the date you apply. My old man didn't know about it - and neither did I - and he missed out for five years! Check it out quickly. It's not means tested but depends if you are getting help - professional or family or if are in residential care. It's not a fortune but 'every little helps'.
