I have an old cheque book from 2004 which I've only written three cheques from.
Need to write a cheque soon for payment by post for an item.
Will this cheque book still be valid for the payment?(there is enough money in the account)
Have visions of cheque being returned because book hasn't been used for so long!

That's absolutely fine - it's only when the cheque is written that it has a shelf life of six months. As long as the account number and sort code haven't changed, all should be well.

Shouldn't be a problem. Cheques only have a limited lifetime when you actually put the date on.
Yes it's valid - I only recently finished a 2003 chequebook

Yeh it's absolutely fine. Did you know they are getting rid of cheques soon?
Don't think it's until about 2018 is it?
You are correct Craft. I thought it was next year sometime. I really need to pay more attention at work lol.

Thanks for your replies guys - all very helpful.
The cheque guarantee card is being withdrawn from the end of this month. Cheques will still be valid, but you won't be able to guarantee them any more, eg you won't be able to cash cheques at a Post Office anymore, though you will still be able to use them to pay for bills, car tax etc.
