I need to find out who has put a HOLD on some funds. I stayed at an hotel last weekend. Total bill £145. This was paid by Nationwide Visa debit card on departure. On Weds. I noticed a 'hold' on funds of £145. Phoned hotel, they apologised and said they would contact their Merchant Services (Barclaycard). Today £103.10 was taken off 'HOLD' leaving £41.90 still HELD. (£41.90 is the exact amount of food and drink, £103.10 is exact amount of room rate) Hotel deny the £41.90 is anything to do with them and that I should contact my 'card supplier' I phoned Nationwide but they can't tell who has put the HOLD on. They say just wait a few days and the HOLD will disappear. How can I find for definite who has put this HOLD on my funds. It is causing me grief as DDs and SOs are due to go out and they won't as it stands.
Sorry sidkid, but I haven't worked out why it's a problem. You had expected the money to go out.
Are you saying it hasn't yet gone out but is showing as 'on hold'?
Or are you saying your whole account has been frozen so DDs/SOs may not paid? I don't understand why the whole account would be put on hold.
Please can you clarify the exact position.
Thanks
from the other post, they have taken the money for the whole bill, then put a "hold" on the same amount again 9then un held part of it, but £41.90 still remains "held"
Hi bednobs- this is where it gets confusing having two threads. On the other thread sidkid was most insistent that his whole account was on hold and consequently his DDs and SOs wouldn't go out. Sorry sidkid but I wonder whether you have misunderstood what's hapening.
i didn't read it like that factor - i read it that because the £41 pounds was on hold, the dd/so wouldn't go out or would get returned as unpaid because there wasn't enough available funds to cover them
Bednobs/ummmm- no, I definitely read it that sidkid thought the whole account was on hold. He hot quite agitated at suggestions it was only £41.90.
He said "My funds are frozen as explained above.... What are you talking about? I said my DDs and SOs wont go out because of the HOLD that's been put on my account"
Anyway, I'm sure in practice it's just the £41.90 that's the issue and that as a result there may not be enough to cover the DDs. If Nationwide can't help in time then I can only suggest he borrows £42 off a friend and pays it in as cash, then tries to get to the bottom of it/pursues a complaint once the DDs have been paid
they ask for a card at check-in to pre-authorise your upcoming bill, and when you check out you pin authorise your bill amount....
that pre-authorisation can take up to five days to 'come off' your account
i stay in many hotels and if its a hotel that i dont have a priority account with (one that trusts you to pay on your way out) then i insist on no pre-authorisation and if the check in staff need payment i insist that full payment is taken at check in and state that i wont bill any extras to my room
otherwise say you were staying three seperate nights at different hotels at say £150 a night you could have around £500 tied up in pre authorisations....for no benefit at all...
Several times in the other thread he says the hold has been put on his account. It is unclear and there are inconsistencies. It's far better when these things are kept in one thread
