my boyfriends mum died when he had just turned 18 and he had to move in with his dad....he then recieved 6 thousand for his mums death and his dad said that he could not afford the funeral costs and the cost of 3 more kids moving into his house(my boyfriend his sister and his brother) so he asked him if he could borrow the 6 thousand and tld him that he would pay him back it has now been over 2 yrs later and he has asked for the money back but him and his fiance just say that cant afford to pay him any money .... i want to know if he has any claim on this money and if there is any way of getting it back ... they have alreadi gained a house after his mums death as his mum and dad were not legally divorced and now are refusing to pay back this money ... any information would be really helpful please

perhaps they think they don't owe it to him? A funeral costs anything from £2000 upwards. If they had no money (it's not like a house actually represents "money")then why wouldn't your b/f want to pay for his mum's funeral? if the 6k was from her will/assets then paying for a funeral should have come first...

Also the dad has been housing him for 2 years (is he paying rent?) if not it would have cost the b/f more to pay rent than 6k for 2 years
This answer is based on the 6k being from a will/intestacy and the dad not charging any rent (which i have completely assumed) if the facts are different , please accept my apologies and re-post

i dont know if i respond to u here or not but..... he has not lived with him at all over the 2 yrs he went to uni a month after it happened and then he went on to move in with me so he owes him nottin for rent both him and his brother gt 6 thousand and they took it both and the dad got money also and funerals dont cost as much as 12 thousand they have said if they sell his mums house they'll give him something but this is looking like a empty promise as the house has been sitting empty for nearly 3 yrs and it is not up for sale also the money was ment for the kids it was like a trust she had set up incase anything happened to her to help them with cars or insurance etc
wednesday and his dad told him he would pay him it back then his fiance txtd my bf that night and said they cant afford to so he spoke to his dad again today and his dad said that all my bf wants is money and that makes him selfish which makes me laugh since its nearly 3 yrs later he is asking for it
hes not asking for 6 thousand back in a week he asked if theyd start to pay him it back each month give me so much they both have good jobs so they cud afford at least a hundred a month but they both think the money should have went to them as they had to move the other 2 kids in with them even though his brother pays rent to them so i dont understand how they think its right
