Having just watched the Grand National I realise  I know nothing about the horse racing world.  How does a racehorse owner earn his money?  Is it a percentage of the bets or what?  Their excitement over winning can't just be for the glory surely?

Thanks for that Andy - I don't think I'll bother buying a horse then - I'll just stay poor without one rather than poor with one.
Dont forget also the income from the breeding .

Thanks but I've already got two kids and they've drained my dry!!

I think they hire them out to other horse owners to breed new potential winners, or at least get people in white coats, with rubber gloves & test tubes to do the job. Other than that I don't see much profit in appearing in office calanders, adverts or movies, because to most of us one big horsey looks much like any other big horsey.
Its not men in lab coats who do the business but a poor mule or a donkey that bears the brunt of the stallions force. The lab coats then collect the spillage and sell it for millions. It is considered too risky for the mare to get it naturally.
