Youth bank accounts.

I'm wanting to open a bank a/c for my14 yr daughter. But we want one that will allow direct debits, as we are transferring her phone contract DD to her own account, so she can take responsibility for some of the extras she downloads. I've looked on net but can't seem to find one that say they do allow DDs - would this just be the norm for such a bank account? Thanks in advance

As a phone contract is in essence a form of credit I doubt a 14 year old would be allowed a DD for such a thing. Of course I could be totally wrong.

Have you asked the phone company about doing this?

I think you're right Planks. It's a while since I was 16 but I am sure I could get nothing more than a basic cash account until then.

Under 18s aren't allowed credit, so it's possible that she won't be able to pay by direct debit. I would suggest that you open an account for her where you bank. I did this for my two sons and as they could check that I had banked there for a number of years their accounts were opened no problem.
