My wife is 60 but not yet entitled to a pension. Because of chronic artheritis in her hands she cannot work to suppliment our income. Could she be entitled to some form of benefit?

Try Disability Living Allowance.
my wife tried for ESA on this,(twice) turned down both times...i know people claiming ESA/DSL with very little if anything wrong with them...makes me soooo mad.
ditto Chas
She won't be able to claim disability living allowance because she is over 60. She will have to claim attendance allowance. DLA is only payable to over 60s if you were claiming it before your 60th birthday.
Contact Citizens Advice or your local Disability Action Group if you have one, for advice
Kathyan, you have to be under 65, not 60.

Sorry daffy, I thought it was 60. I stand corrected!
Kathyan is right. It is a ruling which I find very odd. Just when you need something because you are getting old it is taken away. You cannot get any mobility allowance either. But if you claimed, and was given, disability livng allowance with mobility allowance included before you were 60 you will go on getting it. The only one you can ask for after 60 is attendance allowance.
Yes, sorry, alter that 60 to 65.
Better get a move on then fraz - you might be lucky. Be prepared for lots of questions and visits to the doctors to verify you are telling the truth.
