Have a Virgin direct debit, which according to my bill is due out on the 10th, I get payed on the 11th. Haven't been payed since before Christmas, so thought I may have to feed some money into my account. Just checked my account on the virgin site, and it seems to think it took the money out yesterday (8th). Now, I know I didn't have the pennies in there to cover that bill. Will that bounce back and I face a bank charge? How long before a company would try to take it out again?

On the bill, it does say on or around the 10th, but in all the years of having virgin tv, phone, broadband etc, it has never taken the money early.

Contact Virgin and ask them to move the DD to a week or so after you are paid.

Most companies will do that.
if the cleared funds are not in the account the DD will be refused, and you will be liable for bank charges. they will probably write to you and inform that the DD was refused and request a different method of payment for that month , give Virgin a ring and explain and pay over the phone if possible.
